The Republic of Azerbaijan is a country in the Caucasus region, situated at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. It is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the north, Georgia to the Northwest, Armenia to the west and Iran to the south. The exclave of Nakhchivan is bounded by Armenia to the north and east, Iran to the south and west, while having a short border with Turkey in the Northwest. The area of today’s Azerbaijan Republic has historically been known variously as Aran, Aghvan, Caucasian Albania and more recently Şirvan. Until the 20th century the ancient term Azerbaijan applied largely, as it still does, to the ethnically fraternal territory centred on Tabriz and Ardabil in Iran. Over the last two millennia it’s not just the country’s name and rulers that have changed but also its religion, language and even its predominant ethnicity. And having spent most of that time straddling the territories of competing empires, understanding this extraordinary saga really requires getting to grips with Persian, Arab, Turkish and Russian history.

Road Freight
There are about 25,000 kilometres of roads in Azerbaijan, serving domestic cargo traffic and giving access to international main highways. Highways are mostly in fair condition and need an upgrade to international standards in a view to accommodate growing transit traffic.
Main highways carrying international traffic are the Baku-Alat-Ganja-Qazakh-Georgian Border corridor and the so-called North-South Transport Corridor that stretches out from the Russian to the Iranian border. Travel between mainland and the detached exclave of Nakhichevan is made by air or by road through Iran. Nakhichevan has a 9-kilometre strategic border with Turkey. Turk Transport has weekly Road Freight departures to or from Azerbaijan for import and export freight. Offering door to door, port to port or door to port services. All customs clearance, documentation and friendly advice from bilingual staff will be included in your shipment with us.
Transit time is between 14-15 days for Full loads (FTL) or Groupage loads (LTL).

Baku port, being the largest and busiest port in the Caspian sea, is the marine gateway for Russia. During warmer months when access from Russian inner waterways is accessible, cargo volumes increase, as ships from West European and Mediterranean ports take advantage. Turk Transport offers a range of flexible and cost effective LCL and FCL solutions. We can provide door to door, port to port or door to port solutions.
